According to a report by the World Economic Forum, an employee in Arup’s Hong Kong office transferred approximately $25 million after a video call featuring AI-generated impersonations of senior executives, demonstrating how highly realistic deepfake interactions can bypass traditional identity controls.
The lesson was brutal and simple: when a fake interaction feels live, identity controls that were “good enough” a few years ago can fail very expensively.
Jumio has operated in the identity verification sector for more than 10 years, establishing itself as the primary solution. The security risks organizations face today have developed faster than their core systems can handle. Active illumination prompts and deepfake detection, which will become available as a paid feature in 2025, together with the undisclosed false acceptance rate, create actual challenges for teams who need to conduct regulated onboarding processes.
The blog examines the most effective alternatives using actual, essential metrics, including certified FAR, passive liveness architecture, injection attack defense, deepfake detection performance, and KYC onboarding integration.
Jumio built its reputation on document verification, and it is still its strongest area. The 2026 system poses major challenges for teams that prioritize accurate liveness detection and deepfake protection.
Each platform was assessed on five criteria that directly determine fit for passive liveness and KYC onboarding.
Facia has been designed to protect against deepfakes through its passive liveness detection system. Most platforms treat liveness as a single feature within a broader identity verification product. The system exists to address its main challenge, as demonstrated through independent performance testing.
Key Features
The system uses passive 3D liveness detection to process a single facial recognition test, producing a verified outcome within 1 second. The client-side SDK secures the camera feed at the device level, stopping injection attacks before they reach the server. The system detects 56 different spoofing attack types, including printed photos, screen replays, 3D silicone masks, deepfake videos, and AI-generated faces. Morpheus 2.0 operates as a deepfake detection engine that runs within the same verification call as liveness testing, without introducing any delay. The system achieved 100 percent detection accuracy on Meta’s DFDC dataset. The system achieves 99.6 percent accuracy across more than 100,000 images and videos, and its deepfake detection in live video calls exceeds 90 percent accuracy.
Accuracy
iBeta Level 1 PAD testing achieved a false acceptance rate of 1 in 100,000,000. Level 2 testing showed 0% APCER and a false rejection rate below 1%. These results indicate near-zero false acceptance and rejection rates, unmatched by any other platform within one second.
Best For
The solution works best with financial technology and digital banking services and systems that require KYC onboarding and enterprise authentication. The system provides passive liveness detection and deepfake detection capabilities through its self-hosted API stack.
Jumio is one of the earliest identity verification companies, developing its technology through AI document verification systems that later included live user authentication. The company’s main advantage lies in its ability to handle multiple document types and provide a comprehensive customer onboarding solution that supports various international identification documents.
Liveness Premium launched its deepfake detection and injection attack protection in June 2025. The system uses random color patterns analyzed by AI to confirm a person’s presence. It offers document verification for various identification types, integrating liveness checks, document verification, and database checks within a controlled onboarding process utilizing over 300 patented technologies.
Jumio does not release any independent reports on its false acceptance rate or false rejection rate. The iBeta Level 2 certification has been verified, but the extent of spoofing protection remains unexplained. The deepfake detection functionality, implemented in 2025, lacks documented performance metrics.
Pros The organization has been in existence for a long time. The organization maintains access to documents that exist worldwide. The managed onboarding process helps reduce the time required for system introduction.
Cons The system lacks published requirements for both FAR and FRR measurements. The system experiences operational difficulties because its active liveness tests create additional work for users. Deepfake detection technology has emerged recently, but it does not yet have established performance standards for evaluation.
iProov holds the most powerful certification credentials among the organizations in this comparison. Its Dynamic Liveness solution became the initial biometric product to receive FIDO Alliance certification and the first product to achieve CEN/TS 18099:2025 High specification for injection attack detection.
iProov Dynamic Liveness holds iBeta Level 1 and Level 2 conformance with 0% Imposter Attack Presentation Accept Rate, FIDO certification, and CEN/TS 18099:2025 High specification. The patented Flashmark technology verifies authentic presence through its system of light sequence illumination. Ingenium Biometrics conducted more than 10000 independent tests and recorded zero successful attacks while maintaining a false rejection rate of 0.14%.
Pros The strongest independent certification portfolio here proves to be the most essential asset. The testing showed that the system achieves high accuracy, as it maintains a very low false rejection rate.
Cons The cons of the system include three main issues: the managed service model, the lack of a self-hosted API option, and the absence of independent testing of deepfake detection performance beyond presentation attacks.
Entrust acquired Onfido in 2024, which provides a modular identity verification system that uses document OCR, biometric face matching, and liveness detection. The system’s primary feature enables document verification for 195 different countries.
The Smart Capture SDK offers active and passive liveness detection for quick image-quality assessment. Compliance teams can use Workflow Studio to create KYC workflows without programming. Verification typically takes 30 to 60 seconds, but may extend to 5 minutes for manual reviews.
Accuracy The organization has not released any documentation for its iBeta Level 2 certification, which it holds. The organization does not share any information about its false acceptance rates or false rejection rates. The system lacks a built-in system for detecting deepfake content.
Pros Broad document coverage. No-code workflow builder. Well-documented SDKs and API.
Cons The system lacks iBeta Level 2 certification and has not been verified by published results.
Veriff automated identity verification through its fast artificial intelligence system, which other businesses use in fintech, mobility, and gaming markets. The system’s primary strength lies in its ability to deliver automated decisions within 6 seconds.
Active liveness testing occurs during user onboarding without requiring user input. Combining Fraud Protect and CrossLinks enhances risk assessment beyond liveness testing. Human assessment is needed for uncommon situations. The system covers over 13,500 document categories across 230 nations.
iBeta Level 2 certification is not publicly documented. The system does not release information about false acceptance rates or false rejection rates. The system does not have any special tools to detect deepfake content.
Pros The system delivers rapid automated decision-making capabilities, enabling it to process various types of documents while leveraging built-in fraud intelligence signals.
Cons The organization has not yet obtained iBeta Level 2 certification, which remains unissued. The system lacks both false acceptance rate and false rejection rate measurements, as well as deepfake detection capabilities.
Liveness.ai provides a lightweight, passive liveness API that developers can use without requiring KYC verification. The service is designed for teams that need to create their own system, including liveness as part of it.
Key features The system provides REST API services with clear documentation and pricing information. The system operates through continuous, passive user monitoring without requiring direct user interaction. The system requires only basic components for its operational needs.
Accuracy No iBeta Level 2 certification. The system does not provide any Falsification Audit Rates or False Rejection Rates. The system does not disclose its methods for detecting spoofing attacks. The system lacks any capability to identify deepfake content.
Pros Clean REST API. Developer-friendly documentation. Passive liveness without prompts.
Cons Not suitable for regulated KYC. No certification depth, no deepfake detection, no document verification integration.
ISO/IEC 30107-3 Level 2. The baseline certification for regulated biometric KYC. Facia, Jumio, and iProov hold it. Onfido and Veriff have not publicly documented it. Confirm the scope. Level 1 does not cover 3D artefact attacks.
CEN/TS 18099:2025. Published in February 2025, this is the first international specification specifically for the evaluation of biometric injection attacks. For a current breakdown of deepfake legislation by jurisdiction, the Facia Deepfake Laws Directory tracks requirements across markets.
GDPR and eIDAS 2.0. Liveness checks process special category biometric data under GDPR Article 9. Before deployment, confirm data residency, retention limits, and DPA status with any vendor.
Must ask questions of buyers from vendors:
Every platform here has something going for it. iProov has the strongest injection attack certification. Onfido covers more document types globally. Veriff is fast. Jumio works well for enterprises that need a managed IDV workflow.
But none of them publish a certified FAR, a certified FRR, and deepfake detection benchmarks at the same time. Facia does. Its iBeta Level 1 FAR is 1 in 100,000,000. Level 2 confirmed 0% APCER and a sub-1% FRR. Morpheus 2.0 deepfake detection runs in the same API call as liveness, hitting 99.6% accuracy across 100,000+ assets and 100% on Meta’s DFDC dataset. The client-side SDK blocks injection attacks that server-side platforms cannot see. The whole stack runs via a self-hosted REST API with no managed service dependency.
If passive liveness accuracy and deepfake defense are what you are buying for, Facia is the right call.
Book a technical proof of concept and test Facia against your specific threat scenarios and onboarding flow.
Passive liveness detects real human presence by analyzing facial depth, texture, and motion patterns without user interaction. However, it should be combined with document verification, face matching, and fraud signals for complete protection.
It streamlines verification by removing user prompts, enabling faster and frictionless onboarding. At the same time, it enhances security by detecting spoofing attempts in real time.
Advanced passive liveness systems can identify deepfake artifacts like inconsistencies in facial movement and texture. However, dedicated deepfake detection models significantly improve accuracy and reliability.
KYC platforms use a combination of liveness detection, AI-based deepfake detection, and biometric face matching. Some also include injection attack defense and document verification for stronger fraud prevention.
