Isle of Man Increases Border Safety with Facial & Number Plate Recognition

The existence of organized crime and fraud has driven up pressure on the Isle of Man government, and the government has now launched a comprehensive scheme to strengthen border security. To attain this goal, the government will introduce facial recognition and automated number plate recognition systems at the island’s air and sea ports. From November, police officers will guard strategic entry points of the Isle of Man with intelligence-led security checks to deter crime and smuggled prohibited items. The Department of Infrastructure’s port security team is to collaborate with the Isle of Man Constabulary to strengthen its fraud detection capabilities. Minister Jane Poole-Wilson reassured the public that her government is committed to making all islands safe, thus making it clear that this strategy will continue to keep criminals away and also ensure that the resident islanders will not be taken advantage of.
