Author: admin | 24 Sep 2024

The existence of organized crime and fraud has driven up pressure on the Isle of Man government, and the government has now launched a comprehensive scheme to strengthen border security. To attain this goal, the government will introduce facial recognition and automated number plate recognition systems at the island’s air and sea ports. This is one giant stride in the government’s continuous and vigorous efforts aimed at elevating tracking and detecting criminal activities.

From November, police officers will guard strategic entry points of the Isle of Man with intelligence-led security checks to deter crime and smuggled prohibited items. The Department of Infrastructure’s port security team is to collaborate with the Isle of Man Constabulary to strengthen its fraud detection capabilities. Minister Jane Poole-Wilson reassured the public that her government is committed to making all islands safe, thus making it clear that this strategy will continue to keep criminals away and also ensure that the resident islanders will not be taken advantage of.

Automated Facial Recognition to Strengthen Security Operations in Isla del Cielo

The Isle of Man government has deployed automated facial recognition technology in a campaign to make borders more secure, as implemented in its ongoing effort to identify individuals on its list of known criminals. Minister Jane Poole-Wilson reassured the public that the technology will be up to legal standards and that it will not store any personal data within the larger scheme of deterring crime and protecting residents.

Moreover, as part of the government efforts, all residents are now to be registered with an ID number as the administration has proposed this new requirement. Other critical crimes such as money laundering and fraud have been curbed, and with this mainstreaming of modern technologies in the security setup, the Isle of Man takes proactive measures to ensure the border is safe, thus fostering cooperation with UK law enforcement agencies.
