Trump Signs Law Criminalizing Deepfakes and Revenge Pornography

President Donald Trump recently signed the “Take It Down Act” into law, making a major contribution to stopping AI-created deepfakes and revenge porn. The new law targets the sharing of nonconsensual intimate pictures and videos, even if created with artificial intelligence.

The bill, supported by First Lady Melania Trump for her Be The Best initiative, received full approval from the Senate and approval by the House with only two representatives voting against it. At the ceremony, the First Lady also marked her part in the executive order by contributing her signature.

The law now punishes with strict penalties anyone who shares explicit images or videos without someone else’s consent. Social networks are expected to remove this type of content right away if they are alerted, and the Federal Trade Commission is charged with handling enforcement actions.

People expressed increasing worries that generative AI can be used to create very realistic but false sexual images, mostly of women, minors, and public personalities. Lawmakers such as Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), supported the bill, pointing out its role in current digital protection.

Growing use of deepfakes means that this law is crucial for supporting victims and bringing abusers and websites to justice.

FACIA offers advanced AI deepfake detection and biometric verification to help platforms quickly identify and remove harmful content. Supporting compliance with the Take It Down Act, FACIA strengthens online safety and protects victims from nonconsensual deepfakes and image abuse.
