META LAUNCHES FACIAL RECOGNITION TO TACKLE MENA CELEB SCAM

Meta Introduces Facial Recognition to Overcome MENA Celeb Scam

Meta has introduced the latest tool, using the facial recognition system to combat digital scams and create a recovery account that is easier to use in MENA. The main purpose of such efforts is to stop fraudsters from utilizing the modified celebrities’ images for misleading ads, a method known as “celeb-bait” scams.

The system then contrasts the images in sceptical ads with the display image of public figures on Meta forums like Facebook and Instagram. If the match is found, the fraudulent content is clear immediately. Furthermore, the entire facial data utilized in this method will be deleted and will not be able to be reused right after checking.

This technology impulsively defends the public figures in the MENA region, although they can choose if they want. Meta is also introducing a video selfie feature to assist users in recovering hacked accounts quicker. By recording a brief video, users can authenticate their identity securely—like using facial recognition to unlock a phone.

This new process supplants the old document-based verification with a safer, quicker alternative. Meta encrypts the video information, never shares it, and has it deleted after the process is over.

Meta explains that these updates are a move towards making the digital environment safer by limiting identity-based scams and safeguarding both public figures and regular users.
