The U.S. Open golf event is using facial recognition technology for the second consecutive year. This event is offering fans a faster entry into the venue at the Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. Fans can bypass the extensive queues and gain entry into the course easily. Through a collaboration with Airport Logistics, FortressGB, and biometric ticketing firm Wicket, fans now enjoy seamless entry using facial recognition and by eliminating long queues.

The system includes chip readers that FortressGB installed. It allows spectators to tap their phones or credential passes at kiosks. To further streamline the experience, pre-registered fans can enter via facial recognition. This feature eliminates the need for physical scanning or tapping. Pre-registered fans will be able to enter the course continuously by scanning their facial data by ensuring an uninterrupted flow of attendees, also the participants, and staff at the event.

Amanda Weiner, the Managing Director of Global Media and Ticketing at the U.S. Golf Association, talked about the necessity to reduce the wait time by stating, “People did not come to wait in lines, they came to see the best players in the world.”

Meanwhile, facial recognition is also being rolled out in high-tech stadiums, such as the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, to offer personalization to fans. Whether it’s using facial recognition to personalize fan greetings or track crowd reactions at individual seats. The biometric technology is transforming the sports entertainment experience.

However, the increasing popularity of facial recognition creates legal and ethical issues. Indeed, as the New York State Bar Association observes, more than half of adults in the United States are currently enrolled in facial recognition databases. Varying state laws create regulatory uncertainty for companies deploying facial recognition without consistent federal oversight. This raises concerns about data security, along with the consent, and misuse.

Facia delivers the fastest face recognition and liveness detection for event security. It offers frictionless access and protects identities with deepfake detection. Its privacy-first architecture ensures secure and seamless fan experiences.
