France Identité Expands Age Verification Sandbox to iOS

Author: admin | 11 May 2026

France Identité, the French government-backed digital identity app, has expanded its sandbox to iOS, letting developers and early testers test digital identity and age verification flows across both Android and Apple ecosystems.

It is similar to France Identité’s successful in-the-wild “unlinkability” experiment in which age verification was conducted without triggering any warnings to trackers or revealing browsing habits. The test is part of France’s policy for privacy-by-design in how identity gets verified online.

France has one of the most vibrantregulatory activity in  Europe for age verification on online platforms, particularly regarding access to adult content. The country has a model that backs double blind verification that only allows confirmation of eligibility to the platform and not which sites the user accesses.

Meanwhile, platform-level verification alongside digital privacy issues is gaining momentum around the world. Concerns that hardware-bound identity systems may hand more control to major technology platforms have been voiced by industry groups like the Age Verification Providers Association (AVPA). Some have pointed out that device-linked verification mechanisms may lead to persistent identifiers and more visibility of data for operating system makers.

France Identité’s sandbox activity mirrors the international trend towards privacy-focused digital identity ecosystems, which prioritize compliance, compatibility with other systems, and user anonymity when verifying online verification processes.

Global Identity Verification Developments

Governments worldwide are pushing ahead with privacy-focused digital identity programs. The EU Digital Identity Wallet is still being built out, while Australia, the UK, and several U.S. states are tightening age verification rules for online platforms. Biometric privacy and Big Tech’s role in identity infrastructure remain hot topics for regulators globally.
